MTSU Shooting Case,Shortly before noon today a man was shot in a school shooting at Middle Tennessee State University . The cause of the shooting? A struggle. Only a fight. Fortunately, the victim was shot in the hand only, but it goes without saying that should never have been shot at all. That the gun should never have been on campus.
This ride is a bit different from others we've seen in recent years. The biggest difference, of course, is to be conducted in a university campus. With the exception of the slaughter at Virginia Tech, most school shootings we learn to be carried out in secondary schools, the base of operations for children with problems.
Anyway, this new provision raises the question (again): How do we keep guns out of our schools?
I am, for now, is not an expert in the field of arms or crazy college kids, but the way I see it, there are three ways we can address this.
The first is to keep the kids even want to bring weapons to school. This must start at home and at school, with parents, teachers and other students are more aware. We must begin to notice when something is wrong with our children - even college students. If you are mentally ill, there are signs. If they are constantly reinforced with another student, someone will know.
We must foster a culture of gossip tales, where people reportedly indiscriminately, but should cultivate a culture of conscience. We should tell our children that it's okay to talk to someone in authority that Johnny has really been more than a little off lately. We must be approaching children become dashes representing extreme violence to find out what's really going on in their heads. Hopefully, at that time, the problem can be addressed directly and diffuse the situation to the point where weapons are no longer necessary
