The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo First HD Video Trailers

The first teaser trailer has been released in Europe for the American remake of the hit Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The upcoming film stars Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara, from The Social Network, as Lisbeth Salander, the title role made famous by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace.
Director David Fincher (The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) adapted the story from the first book of the best-selling trilogy by Stieg Larsson.

Posted on SlashFilm.com, this "red-band" version - age-restricted due to some nudity - was released in Europe last week. Supposedly leaked, it looks as if it is shot off a theater screen, but is suspected to be a viral video since the MPAA red-band restrictions only apply in the US.

The official green-band trailer will be released worldwide on June 2.

The montage of fast-cut footage excerpted from the film is accompanied by Led Zepplin's "Immigrant Song" performed by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Trent Reznor, of Nine Inch Nails, who scored the film music with Atticus Ross, the Oscar-winning team that scored Social Network.

The shots of scenes loosely follow the storyline of a young female computer hacker who helps a journalist investigate a family and find a woman who is missing or dead, only to uncover more than expected. The tagline at the end of the trailer reads: "The feel-bad movie of Christmas."

President Obama And Wife Visit Arlington National Cemetery:Honor America's Veterans On Memorial Day 2011

President Obama and 2012 presidential candidates will honor America's veterans by participating in services and events on Memorial Day.

President Obama will visit the Arlington National Cemetery today where he and his wife Michelle Obama will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns. After the ceremony, they will join a Memorial Day service at the Memorial Amphitheater at the cemetery.
In his Memorial Day proclamation, Obama declared May 30 a day of prayer for permanent peace and called the nation to unite in a time of prayer at 11:00 a.m. local time Monday. He also asked all Americans to observe the National Moment of Remembrance beginning at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day.
"On this Memorial Day, we honor the generations of Americans who have fought and died to defend our freedom," the president said in this proclamation issued Friday.
"On this solemn day in which Americans unite in remembrance of our country's fallen, we also pray for our military personnel and their families, our veterans, and all who have lost loved ones. As a grateful Nation, we forever carry the selfless sacrifice of our fallen heroes in our hearts, and we share the task of caring for those they left behind."
Former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain, who announced his run for the GOP nod for president in mid-May, will pay tribute to fallen U.S. soldiers by attending a Memorial Day service in Hampstead, N.H.

Sarah Palin Explained Mystique

There is nothing harder than trying to explain the appeal of Sarah Palin to those who just don’t get it. The governor is launching a bus tour of historic parts of America that commentators say is a promo for a presidential campaign. First stop: the annual Rolling Thunder motorbike ride in Washington DC. To some, the thought of a presidential candidate burning rubber with “scooter trash” is incredibly cool. To others, it is tacky and inappropriate. The response is conditioned by different cultural values. That’s why the Palin mystique is so indefinable and controversial. Voting for her isn’t a rational act: it’s a motion of the gut.
Most Europeans and liberals find the governor repellent. Maureen Dowd’s joke that “Caribou Barbie is one nutty puppy” encapsulates their myriad complaints: Sarah Palin is stupid, mad, childish, ridiculous and bad for feminism. Critics say that she was plucked from obscurity and given the Vice Presidential nomination to steal women voters from Obama, that there is nothing “maverick” about her. To them, she is a Republican electoral gimmick that has gained a terrifying life of its own.
But for every liberal who hates Sarah Palin, there is a conservative who adores her. Although she ticks all the right boxes on policy, the relationship is empathetic rather than ideological. To anyone who has experienced the lash of snobbery, Palin is a soul mate. Few politicians have ever been so quickly and violently thrust into the spotlight, strip-searched for scandal, humiliated and tortured by the media. The governor has been called a liar, a thief and a simpleton. Serious papers like The Guardian are still speculating about the parenthood of her youngest child, like Palin was a toothless guest on Jerry Springer. Yet what is refreshing about the governor is the very ordinary nature of her problems – a teenage pregnancy and a rogue son-in-law. All the copy about her bumpkin foibles only emphasises how real she is, and how distant and vague Obama seems in comparison.
The media’s dissection of Sarah Palin has discredited her in some quarters, but in others created a modern martyr. She seems convolutely (and sometimes inarticulately) careful about what she is saying, and to whom, is because she is terrified of misquotation. She has made some dumb remarks. But nobody who rises from librarian to governor of Alaska is an idiot; at least, they can be intelligent without being intellectual. To some, it seems that those trifling matters about which she has been accused of ignorance (where is Russia, what is Africa?) are the sort of things that only concern liberal arts professors anyway. They are certainly far less significant than the price of gas or the contents of Matthew 24.

2011 Indianapolis 500 Winner Dan Wheldon

Dan Wheldon is a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner. He's also — at least for the moment — out of a job.
"I'm sure I'll be changing diapers by tomorrow," Wheldon said with a laugh after his stunning last-lap pass of rookie JR Hildebrand sent him to Victory Lane at the Brickyard.
Wheldon was smiling when he said it, but he wasn't kidding.
The 500 is the only race he's under contract for this season, and even the addition of a second Borg-Warner trophy to his collection doesn't mean the phone is guaranteed to start ringing off the hook anytime soon.
He's aware more than most how delicate the economy is these days. He tried to court new sponsors when his contract with Panther Racing wasn't renewed over the winter. He thought he had a deal in place to join a new team in January, but it fell through at the last minute.
Rather than take a ride with a team he didn't believe could be competitive on a weekly basis, the Englishman opted to stay at home with his wife and two young children.
"Do I sit and home and think, 'It'd be great to be out there? Absolutely,'" Wheldon said. "But it's all I can do."
Even the title "two-time Indy winner" might not be enough to get Wheldon any more work this year, though his performance put an exclamation point on a month that saw upstart teams hang with the deep-pocketed big boys at Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Penske.

Hi guys you know your ideal singer Sean Kingston was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Sunday night after he crashed into a bridge while riding his personal watercraft.

Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and rushed Kingston to Jackson memorial where he is now. A spokesman with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told Local 10 that Kingston and his female passenger “needed medical attention.”
According to Local 10 News the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but thus far it doesn't seem that alcohol played a part in the accident.

An unnamed rep for the singer issued this statement to TMZ: "Sean Kingston was in an accident today. No further details are available at the moment. He and his family thank everyone for the well-wishes."

Lil Kim,Fat Joe And DJ Scratch Open A Night Club In Zimbabwe

Promoter of the Zarfest tour featuring Ciara, Timbaland, Fat Joe, Lil Kim and DJ Scratch, Kenny Kunene, who is also owner of one of South Africa’s leading night spots, Zar Lounge, said he would soon open a club under the Zar franchise in Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe has become my second home and South Africa needs to celebrate this country more than any other country. This was our home during the liberation struggle and they contributed so much to the liberation of South Africa,” said Kunene.

He added that as a way of giving back to Zimbabweans, he was going to open a club similar to the ones he owns in South Africa.

“Zar is here to stay and we are going to have a Zar in Zimbabwe. Every concert we will host in South Africa, we will bring it down to Zimbabwe as this is my second home,” said Kunene.

Kunene, who also attended the Akon and Sean Paul concert which was held in Harare last year, admitted that he was impressed with the turnout at the show.

He added that he would ensure that Zarfest leaves lasting impressions in the country.

“I give people maximum effort in whatever I do. Zimbabweans should gear up for a memorable show,” said Kunene.

One of the organisers from South Africa explained that tickets to the Zarfest concert were highly priced because of the quality of the event.

“If you buy a Corolla, you know what to expect from it but if you buy a Mercedes Benz, you also know the value in it. So that is the case with our pricing of the Zarfes

Wheldon Wins Again Indy 500:Rookie Loses Crash on Last Turn

A 23-year-old rookie, had much more on his mind late Sunday afternoon than just completing one smooth turn that would have won the Indianapolis 500. He was low on fuel. He was swooping in on lapped traffic. And Dan Wheldon was closing fast.
So Hildebrand, driving flat out, decided to pass Charlie Kimball, in a slower car, on the high side at the fourth turn at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hildebrand hit the “marbles,” bits of tires that settled near the walls, skidded on his worn tires and thudded into the wall with a flash of fire.
A gasp rose from the estimated crowd of 300,000. Hildebrand, the right side of his car mangled, made it to the finish line — but not before Wheldon, a 32-year-old Briton, passed him to win the Indy 500, which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year.
“Is it a move I would do again? No,” Hildebrand said. “I think the only reason I did it in the first place is that it had worked at different stages earlier in the race. But in hindsight, I think with the tires being as used as they were at that stage, that last run after the caution being so long, it’s obviously a learning experience for me.”

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Movie Trailers

There's already a debate about how this trailer for "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" got online: Was it leaked from a European theater or stealthily put there by Sony? Whatever your conspiracy theory, the source is perhaps less important than the content of this so-called "feel-bad" Christmas movie, all of which comes at us fast, gritty and stylish. (We link to the trailer here instead of embedding it because it's been red-banded, apparently owing to a blink-and-you'll-miss-it nudity shot; please use your discretion in clicking through.)

Shrewdly assuming knowledge of the Stieg Larsson literary series, the spot for the David Fincher movie eschews traditional setup and exposition in favor of quick cuts and a driving Led Zeppelin cover by Trent Reznor and Karen O. This one's for the devotees.

Still, if you pause the spot or watch it multiple times, you'll see many allusions to the mystery that Daniel Craig's Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander are trying to solve in the Swedish snow. It's a smart approach: The story is there for those who want it, but it's not laid out in a way that could subject it to scrutiny.

The trailer's cumulative effect is to make the movie feel both polished and raw, a sophisticated product that moves miles beyond the made-for-TV feel of the Swedish-language original. If the book and the casting already have fans excited for the first installment this December, this one will make them rapturous.

Florida Siesta Beach Named 2011 Best And NO.1 Beach In U.S.

Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Fla., has been ranked the best beach in the United States by coastal expert Stephen P. Leatherman, widely known as "Dr. Beach."
Every year Leatherman ranks the Top 10 beaches in America judging by 50 criteria such as how wide the beach is at low tide, whether it is made of cobbles or powdery coral, how soft the sand is, the number of sunny days, air and water temperature, water color, waves, currents and other factors, he says on his Web site.
Siesta Beach came out on top for 2011 leading the way in all of Dr. Beach's criteria.
"It has the finest and whitest sand in the world, and I cannot argue with this claim; the powdery sand is nearly pure quartz crystal. The beautiful blue-colored water is clean and clear, making it so inviting to bathers and swimmers. This beach park is complete with showers and bathrooms, snack bars, grills, picnic tables, shade trees, and a large parking area, which does fill up on summer weekends," Leatherman said.
Leatherman, director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research, put three Sunshine State beaches in his Top 10 list, which changes every year.
It is unclear why the rankings change so significantly since beaches rarely change their composition unless they are hit by massive storms or hurricanes.

Musician Gil Scott Heron Died At 62:The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Musician Gil Scott-Heron, who helped lay the groundwork for rap by fusing minimalistic percussion, political expression and spoken-word poetry on songs such as "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," died Friday at age 62.

A friend, Doris C. Nolan, who answered the telephone listed for his Manhattan recording company, said he died in the afternoon at St. Luke's Hospital after becoming sick upon returning from a European trip.
"We're all sort of shattered," she said.
Scott-Heron's influence on rap was such that he sometimes was referred to as the Godfather of Rap, a title he rejected.
"If there was any individual initiative that I was responsible for it might have been that there was music in certain poems of mine, with complete progression and repeating `hooks,' which made them more like songs than just recitations with percussion," he wrote in the introduction to his 1990 collection of poems, "Now and Then."
He referred to his signature mix of percussion, politics and performed poetry as bluesology or Third World music. But then he said it was simply "black music or black American music."

CNBC News Avchor Mark Haines Died At 65:Erin Burnett

Veteran journalist Mark Haines, a fixture on CNBC for 22 years, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening. He was 65 years old.
Haines, founding anchor of CNBC's morning show "Squawk Box," was co-anchor of the network's "Squawk on the Street" program, providing insight and commentary sometimes humorous and occasionally acerbic.
CNBC President Mark Hoffman called Haines a "building block" of the financial network's programming. Hoffman said Haines died at his home.
"With his searing wit, profound insight and piercing interview style, he was a constant and trusted presence in business news for more than 20 years," Hoffman said in a statement to CNBC employees. "From the dotcom bubble to the tragic events of 9/11 to the depths of the financial crisis, Mark was always the unflappable pro.
"Mark loved CNBC and we loved him back. He will be deeply missed."
Haines may be best remembered for his calming and commanding presence during the 9/11 tragedy when he reacted unflappably to the furious stream of incoming rumor and even more astonishing truth with a professionalism that rivaled any television anchor, said CNBC senior economics reporter Steve Liesman.
Haines was well-known around the newsroom for giving his colleagues on-air nicknames. He was responsible for calling David Faber "The Brain," Joe Kernen "The Kahuna" and Steve Liesman "The Professor." If a colleague ever complained about it, he would respond, "What's worth more, your name or the nickname?"
He also often helped make his colleagues look good on air, saying, "Hey, when they look good, I look good, too."
Haines served as a news anchor for KYW-TV in Philadelphia, WABC-TV in New York, and WPRI-TV in Providence, before joining CNBC.

Season 12 Dancing With The Stars Winner Is Hines Ward

Well the Dancing With The Stars winner is Hines Ward. While Hines may have fallen short of the Super Bowl championship earlier on in the year he didn’t leave DWTS empty handed.
Tuesday night the Pittsburgh Steelers player had fans cheering as he performed on the dance floor. The Dancing With The Stars winner “samba-ed” his way to the victory of DWTS season 12. This means that he beat out finalists Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane.
Hines said that he never thought that he would make it to the finals when he started the competition and that he owed it all to Kym who is the “most amazing teacher.”
It was on “personal story” week when Hines performed the high-energy samba. He dedicated his dance to his mother which was proudly sitting in the front row of the audience during the finale dances.
The judges had plenty of great things to say about Hines:
“Hines, in all honestly, you’re the MVP of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’” judge Carrie Ann praised brilliantly. “…you really dance with heart.”
“You’re a killer when you play your sport, and a charming dazzler on the dance floor,” Bruno said with passion. “We all fall in love.”

Dancing With The Stars Season 12 Winner Is Hines Ward:Kirstie Alley And Chelsea Kane Loser

He may have come just short of the Super Bowl championship earlier this year, but Hines Ward didn't leave the dance floor empty-handed Tuesday night.
The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver had fans cheering and black-and-gold towels waving as he samba-ed his way to a victory as the season 12 winner of "Dancing with the Stars" ahead of fellow finalists Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane.
"Starting this competition, I never thought I'd make it to the finals," the always-humble NFL player said upon being named winner. "I owe it all to Kym, who's the most amazing teacher."
Ward, who originally performed the high-energy samba during "personal story" week, dedicated his dance to his mother, who sat front-row in the audience during the finale dances.
"Mr. Irresistible" ran up to give his proud mom a peck on the cheek, which she brushed away, to the glee of the football star and the crowd.
"Hines, in all honestly, you're the MVP of 'Dancing with the Stars,'" judge Carrie Ann gushed. "You're nothing but consistency and focus ... you really dance with heart."
Outspoken Bruno appeared equally smitten by Ward's charms on the dance floor.
"You're a killer when you play your sport, and a charming dazzler on the dance floor," he said earnestly. "We all fall in love."
Ward and Johnson, who wowed the judges consistently throughout the season with their infectious energy and noticeable chemistry, were favorites going into the finals, though they faced stiff competition from Alley and Kane.

Two Young Stars Scotty McCreery And Lauren Alaina Wins American Idol 2011

They're the youngest final  two in the history of "American Idol," but Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina showed no signs of nervousness as they took the stage Tuesday night (May 24) for their final showdown.
Both high-schoolers had their game faces on as the first-ever all-country championship ended in a near dead heat, with each singer putting up strong vocals on a trio of down-home tunes, including the debut of the emotional singles that will be their crowning songs, should they win.

There was, of course, some last-minute drama, as host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Alaina has sprained one of her vocal cords in rehearsal, but the plucky high-schooler assured him that she was just fine and ready to rumble.
The two teens were thrust onto the biggest stage of the competition so far in the 7,000-seat Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and the first round had them reprising their favorite song of the season. McCreery went with Montgomery Gentry's country-rocking "Gone."
Looking confident as he strolled his way from the audience to the stage, Scotty worked the room while playing to the big room with some newly acquired swagger. The hyped-up performance ended with a powerful golf swing and more high-fives for the kids down front.
Alaina sounded in fine form again on Carrie Underwood's kicky "Flat on the Floor." With a bit more sandpaper in her voice, Lauren put the pedal down and gave it her all, ending with a big, rich note that proved she was — yes, Randy — in it to win it.
In an unexplained break from "Idol" orthodoxy, Seacrest rushed through the call-in numbers for each contestant after their first performance without making time for the judges to offer commentary.

Kirstie Alley Wins Dancing With The Stars

On Monday's show, Hines Ward and Chelsea Kane, who are dancing with Kym Johnson and Mark Ballas respectively, tied with near-perfect scores.
But Kirstie Alley (who is partnered with Maksim Chmerkovskiy) has become a fan favorite with her memorable trips on the dance floor and jokes about losing weight from all the time spent rehearsing for the hit ABC show.
So who will take home the coveted mirrorball trophy?
"This season, more than any other, it’s up to the fans! You don’t know who is voting and who the dedicated fans are," writes pro Lacey Schwimmer on Celebuzz.
"Kirstie’s fan base is enormous and she got a standing ovation. Hines has all his football fans and also, not many people knew who Chelsea was when she first started and now she’s a household name," she continued.
The Los Angeles Times' Allyssa Lee is convinced Kane and Ward will dance into the finale. In her Show Tracker column, she writes that the performance show didn't seem "like the pressure cooker" it normally is because "we all knew who the final two contestants were going to be before this hour began, and the judges seemed to confirm it with their scores. Which of these stars was not like the other one?"

Christina Hendricks Playboy Pics:The Sexiest Woman Alive

A few months ago, I told you about Twin Falls-bred actress Christina Hendricks being credited with the recent sharp increase in the incidence of breast augmentation surgery in the United Kingdom.
Now the shapely star of Mad Men is being blamed for the entire 2011-2012 American network TV season.
That season will include a remake of Charlie’s Angels, a NBC series called Playboy Club and ABC’s Pan Am, a program about an era when flight attendants were called stewardesses.
Yes, they’re all knockoffs — in one way or another — of Hendricks’ Mad Men, an AMC series about a swinging ’60s advertising agency in New York City.
Here’s what New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd has to say about all that Hendricks must answer for:
“ … Hollywood is a world ruled by men, and this season, amid economic anxieties, those men want to indulge in some retro fantasies about hot, subservient babes.
“‘It’s the Hendricks syndrome,’ said one top male TV producer. ‘All the big, corporate men saw Christina Hendricks play the bombshell secretary on Mad Men and fell in love. It’s a hot fudge sundae for men: a time when women were not allowed to get uppity or make demands. If the woman got pregnant, she had to drive to a back-alley abortionist in New Jersey. If you got tired of women, they had to go away. Women today don’t go away.’”
Hendricks, who lived in Twin Falls from 1983-89 and attended what’s now Vera C. O’Leary Middle School, has women’s clothing manufacturers rushing to sign her up, and designers striving to recreate the look of the show with nipped-in waists, full circle skirts and tight-fitting shirts.
A year, ago the 36-year-old Hendricks was voted “The Sexiest Woman Alive” by female readers of Esquire magazine. She was also nominated for an Emmy Award.
Wrote Dowd: “A top female entertainment executive says ‘it’s not a coincidence that these retro shows are appearing at the same time men are confused about who to be. A lot of women are making more money and getting more college degrees. The traditional roles of dominant and submissive roles are reversed in many cases. Everything was clearer in the ’60s.’”

Casey Anthony Death Case Trial today

Casey Anthony's story may well be among the most documented, analyzed and commented on murder cases ever. But amid all the noise and speculation, another person central to this case is often forgotten: Caylee Marie.

Nearly three years after Caylee's disappearance was first reported by her grandmother in a frantic 911 call, today, for many, begins the search for truth, accountability and justice in the 2008 death of a 2-year-old child.

Today, the prosecution will start to lay out a case heavy with raw emotion — a story likely to be told largely through Casey Anthony's family and friends — as well as novel science.

The trick for prosecutors will be weaving the vivid description of the smell of a dead body emanating from Casey Anthony's Pontiac with the arcane forensic evidence expected to be used to bolster the state's case.

They'll have to delicately illustrate Casey Anthony's actions following her daughter's disappearance as well — the lying, the partying, the tattooing, the young woman's proceeding with life minus her daughter.

The Bachelorette New Season Of 2011With Maine’s Ashley Hebert Romance

The Bachelorette" returns tonight, with another single gal—Ashley Hebert, rejected by Brad Womack on season 15 of "The Bachelor"—looking for love in all the wrong places.

And by wrong, we mean wrong—contestants have made exactly one trip to the altar in a combined 21 seasons of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette."
With last season's "Bachelorette" star Ali Fedotowsky still a bachelorette (but celebrating the one-year anniversary of her TV engagement to winner Roberto Martinez), the franchise's only married couple are "Bachelorette's" Trista Rehn (runner-up of original "The Bachelor") and winner Ryan Sutter.

Billboard Music Awards 2011:Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez Hot Kissing

From winners and losers to surprise cameos and awesome performances, there were plenty of things to talk about after last night's Billboard Music Awards, and yet the moment that seems to have caused the biggest stir is the kiss between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Justin kissed GF Selena right after his win for Best New Artist, and while the kiss lasted approximately three seconds (we're being generous here), it was enough to set the entire internet abuzz.

This wasn't the first time an awards-show pucker has sparked headlines. In fact, throughout the years there have been plenty of memorable lip-locks that set the trail for Sel and the Biebs. Check out our list of the five most memorable awards show smooches after the jump!

ABC Show The Bachelorette 2011With Maine’s Ashley Hebert Love

Ashley Hebert is a young woman who may have found love and her soul mate.
But she can’t tell a soul about it.
The Madawaska native will star for the next two-plus months in the ABC romance-reality show "The Bachelorette." It marks the first time a Mainer has been the star of a competition reality show and not a contestant.
She’s finished filming, so she knows which of the 25 eligible bachelors she liked and didn’t like. Who she kissed and who she didn’t.
But neither she nor ABC -- especially ABC -- wants her to spoil any surprises in store for viewers.
So when reporters from across the country asked her during a conference call last Wednesday if she was now engaged, she declined to answer. And an ABC public relations representative was on the line with her to make sure she didn’t answer.
"Let’s just say I’m happy with the way things turned out," said Hebert, 27, a dental student at the University of Pennsylvania. "You’ll all have to tune in to find out."
Hebert also wouldn’t say how much ABC is paying her for her starring role, saying that information is "kind of private." But she did answer one question for her practical-minded fans back in Maine.

Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez Kissing Pics And Video On Live TV show

So much for the slogan "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." Unless it's amended to include, "Just don't do it on national television" – which was the case Sunday night, when Justin Bieber delivered a hug and a kiss to Selena Gomez upon his being named Top New Artist at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.

While both parties have long played it coy whenever confronted about their relationship (even by so formidable an inquisitor as Ellen DeGeneres), there was no mistaking their being together Sunday … with his mother, Patricia Mallette, sitting next to them in the audience of the MGM Grand, chaperoning.

And while Bieber thanked his mom and several others when he got his award, Selena's name did not happen to cross his lips, even though she had just planted a big one on them a few seconds before. Oh, men!

Oscar Winner And You Light Up My Life Writer Joseph Brooks's Suicide:Sex Assault

Joseph Brooks, the 73-year-old Academy Award-winner and alleged serial rapist who killed himself yesterday, insisted on his innocence until the end, reportedly using his "rambling" three page suicide note to boast how he would have gotten off and blame his choice to take his life on failing health and financial troubles. "He was facing serious charges and had nothing to live for. I'd have done the same thing," a neighbor told the News.
According to a law enforcement source, Brooks said in his note he would have been exonerated of charges of rape (he was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing on charges of raping or molesting at least 13 actress wannabes) and instead attributed his decision to take his life on his failing health (he had suffered a stroke in 2008 and possibly had a second a few months ago) and on an ex-fiance who he claimed jilted him of millions before revealing she was already married. His diminishing health was probably a large factor, as another neighbor put it "I saw him yesterday—he looked like walking death...like a skeleton." A worker at a nearby restaurant he frequented said he could barely even eat toast anymore.

Joplin Missouri Tornado At Least 89 Dead And Thousand Injured

A massive tornado that tore a 6-mile path across southwestern Missouri killed at least 89 people as it slammed into the city of Joplin, ripping into a hospital, crushing cars like soda cans and leaving a forest of splintered tree trunks behind where entire neighborhoods once stood.Authorities warned that the death toll could climb as search and rescue workers continued their efforts. Their task was made more miserable as a new thunderstorm with strong winds, heavy rain pelted part of the city with quarter-sized hail.

City manager Mark Rohr announced the number of known dead at a pre-dawn news conference outside the wreckage of a hospital that took a direct hit from Sunday’s storm. Rohr said the twister cut a path nearly 6 miles long and more than a half-mile wide through the center of town. Much of the city’s south side was leveled, with churches, schools, businesses and homes reduced to ruins.

Jasper County emergency management director Keith Stammer said about 2,000 buildings were damaged, while Joplin fire chief Mitch Randles estimated the damage covered a quarter or more of the city of about 50,000 people some 160 miles south of Kansas City. He said his home was among those destroyed.

An unknown number of people were injured, and officials said patients were scattered to any nearby hospitals that could take them.

Song Writer Joseph Brooks Found Dead:Apparent Suicide Tell CNN,NY News,BBc

Joseph Brooks, who wrote the 1970s hit song "You Light Up My Life," was found dead Sunday afternoon from an apparent suicide, NYPD deputy commission Paul Browne told CNN. He was 73.
Brooks was found by a friend who was meeting him for lunch at his home. His body was discovered near a helium tank with a tube attached to a dry cleaning bag; his head and neck were wrapped in a towel, according to police, who added that he left a suicide note but declined to reveal what it said.
Brooks was awaiting trial on 2009 charges of allegedly raping 11 young actresses, according to the New York Daily News. He was charged with 82 counts of sexual abuse.
Meanwhile, his son Nicholas Brooks in January was charged with the death of his ex-girlfriend, swimsuit designer Sylvie Cachey, whose body was discovered at the Soho House club and hotel in New York in early December. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
Brooks' hit ballad "You Light Up My Life" was featured in a 1977 movie of the same name that brooks wrote, directed and produced. It was named song of the year at the 1978 Grammys and best original song at the 1977 Oscars.
The song was performed by Kasey Cisyk in the movie but became a huge hit after being recorded by Debbie Boone, who went on to win a Grammy for best new artist.

Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway:Andretti And Ryan Hunter-Reay

Sunday's "Bump Day" at Indianapolis Motor Speedway had another thrilling conclusion, as Marco Andretti's last qualifying run bumped his Andretti Motorsports teammate, Ryan Hunter-Reay, out of the starting lineup for the May 29 Indianapolis 500 -- the centennial anniversary of this prestigious motor racing event.
A majority of the six-hour session was interrupted by rain, with the first delay lasting two hours and the second one taking one hour, 30 minutes.
The session resumed with 75 minutes remaining, as Danica Patrick made it into next Sunday's 500-mile race with a strong qualifying run.
During the final 10 minutes, Alex Lloyd's four-lap average speed of 223.957 m.p.h. was good enough to bump Andretti. It also put Hunter-Reay on the bubble at the time.
Andretti made it on to the track for his final attempt with less than one minute to spare. His average speed of 224.628 m.p.h. was good enough to put him on the inside of row 10 (28th starting spot).
"I had all the faith in the world with my [crew]," Andretti said. "It was a bummer that we were in this position, but we were plenty quick enough yesterday. There were plenty of circumstances that put us in this position."

New Iceland Volcano Eruption In Europe

A new volcanic eruption in Iceland shut down the country's airspace on Sunday, a year after the eruption of nearby Eyjafjoell caused aviation chaos across Europe.
Experts and aviation authorities said however that the impact of the Grimsvotn eruption should not be as far-reaching.
Grimsvotn, Iceland's most active volcano located at the heart of its biggest glacier Vatnajoekull, began erupting late on Saturday (early Sunday AEST), sending a plume of smoke and ash as high as 20 kilometres (12 miles) into the sky.

Iceland Volcano Eruption

A year after an Icelandic volcano grounded planes across Europe, a spectacular new eruption flung up a miles-high ash plume that shut down the country's main airport, plunged nearby areas into darkness and sent ash drifting toward European airspace.
The Grimsvotn (GREEMSH-votn) volcano, which lies beneath the ice of the uninhabited Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland, began erupting Saturday for the first time since 2004, sending ash, smoke and steam 12 miles (20 kilometers) into the air.
It was the volcano's largest eruption in 100 years.
The ash from Grimsvotn — about 120 miles (200 kilometers) east of the capital, Reykjavik — turned the sky black Sunday and rained down on nearby areas, covering buildings, cars and fields in a thick layer of gray soot. Civil protection workers helped farmers get their animals into shelter and urged residents to wear masks and stay indoors. No ash fell on the capital.
The eruption was far larger than last year's eruption at the Eyjafjallajokull (pronounced ay-yah-FYAH-lah-yer-kuhl) volcano 80 miles (130 kilometers) away, but scientists said it was unlikely to have the same global impact as that one, which left 10 million travelers stranded around the world.
"It is not likely to be anything on the scale that was produced last year when the Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted," University of Iceland geophysicist Pall Einarsson told The Associated Press. "That was an unusual volcano, an unusual ash size distribution and unusual weather pattern, which all conspired together to make life difficult in Europe."
Still, Icelandic air traffic control operator ISAVIA established a 120 nautical mile (220 kilometer) no-fly zone around the volcano, closed Keflavik airport, the country's main hub, and canceled all domestic flights. It said Keflavik would stay shut until at least noon Monday, canceling about 40 international flights.

SNL Lady Gaga Sports Pregnant Belly On 36th Season Of Saturday Night Live Show

Today 36th season of Saturday Night Live the show let the evening's megastar guests, Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake, take the reins; a move which meant a revisit of some of JT's classic "SNL" gags and a live television moment only Mother Monster could deliver.
JT started the show insisting that he wouldn't be singing during his latest appearance, only to segue into a ditty during which he busted out his signature falsetto, serenaded a blushing audience member and brought it on home with some soulful trills.
But JT didn't stay on the anti-singing kick for long, popping up in the first sketch as an overeager street marketer in a beer-bottle costume armed with booze-friendly versions of pop hits. Going up against side-eyes from a prudish, tea-shilling Kristen Wiig, Timberlake countered with pro-imbibing jams like a revamp of DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win." Lady Gaga got in on the action, too, tottering on set in a snug vine-swathed frock with goblet-shaped glove thingys to join Timberlake for reboot of B.o.B and Hayley Williams' smash "Airplanes," crooning, "I could really use a drink right now." The pair then belted "too much merlot" to Flo Rida's "Low" before switching up the easy-listening staple "Endless Love" to "Endless Buzz," with lines like, "No one can deny/ This hooch I have inside."
Gaga also showed off her comedic skills in a digital short alongside Timberlake and Andy Samberg. After getting some sugar from mature vixens Patricia Clarkson and Susan Sarandon, JT and Samberg hit the streets in Color Me Badd fresh jumpsuits and leather bombers only to both show up at Gaga's door clutching Alize and Bartles & Jaymes. Looking in gold hoops and a gaudy getup, the pop supernova welcomed them in for an ode to the ménage a trois. "You're my best friend through thick and thin and now it's time to make a triple connection," the crew belted. "It's OK when it's in a three-way. It's not gay when it's in a three-way!"

JNU MMS Scandal Case:Student Arrested From Bihar

Over two months after the police complaint was filed in the sensational Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) MMS case, where an obscene clip was circulated in the institution, an accused has been arrested from Bihar, police said Saturday. ‘We had sent a team to Bihar to arrest 23-year-old Janardhan Kumar, one of the accused in the case, who was also involved in making an obscene clip of a girl and circulating it in the university,’ a senior police official told reporters.
‘We were in touch with our counterparts there (Bihar) and on Saturday he was arrested,’ the official added.
During interrogation, Kumar said he came to Delhi in 2008 and got admission in BA in Korean language in JNU.
Another senior police officer said: ‘He was earlier known to the girl. In 2009, she also got admission in JNU and got the same hostel. They developed an intimate relationship, and also had physical relations which was videographed by Kumar. This was done in the room of a student named Rahul. The videography was converted into a video file with the help of a friend Balbir Chand and the same was taken on CD and circulated.’
After an enquiry by JNU authorities, Kumar was expelled from the campus.
‘Thereafter, he went to Nawada in Bihar and opened a coaching centre,’ said the officer.
According to police, security guards of the university informed the authorities Jan 31 that a video recording showing two students in a compromising position in a hostel room was doing the rounds.
The university conducted an inquiry into the matter and handed over the report to police in the third week of February.
Following this, police lodged a complaint against Kumar and Balbir and recorded the statement of 12 witnesses.
